I'm Richard Vedly, a Haitian artist currently living in The US.

"I draw to capture beauty in my world and share it with all''

How it started

In my early teens, video game illustrations, local artists in Haiti, and master work like those of J. S. Sargeant are what inspired me to start drawing.

Pencil and acrylic paint were the mediums I started with, later on I fell in love with digital art. I knew illustration was my career choice, a rather difficult but realistic one.

How it’s going

In 2020, I started to develop my own graphic novel, Ayiwe, centered around fantasy, mythology and Haitian voodoo. At the same time I was hired as a comic artist for the story Barren, deepening my love for my country's myths. The secretive nature and muted but strong colors of the lwas influenced my color palettes, the swirls of Freda's Veve translates directly in my linework, and the significance of what I illustrate.

My mission

My mission is to use my art to help Haitians around the world remember how beatiful our culture, customs, community, and history is. I want to help more people learn and connect with Haitian culture through our beautiful stories, songs, dances, celebrating all forms of Haitian art.
